How do you work under pressure and why do you feel this ability is important in this role at IQVIA?

  • How to Answer

  • Answer Example

Whether you will be working on clinical solutions in the form of clinical trials and development plans for them or with their groundbreaking technological advancements like AI-driven personalization hubs for patients at IQVIA, odds are good that you are being considered to join a fast-paced team. On top of that, their customers expect results in short order. Because of this, your interviewer will want to hear that you are ready to take on a pressure-packed environment at IQVIA, so they pose this question during your interview. The best way to answer a question like this is to use your previous experience to show how you can handle multiple duties, projects, and deadlines at one time with ease.

"IQVIA's next project manager needs to come to your team with the ability to oversee and coordinate multiple projects at one time while having the ability to supervise support staff in a remote environment and providing continuous customer support across the country. I want you to know that my ability to juggle the stress and pressure that comes with this job would really come second nature to me. As you can see from my resume, I've spent the last nine years in a project management role at the pharmacy level for a large pharmaceutical company. I've developed a great system of keeping my work organized, keeping myself on track with my own goals, and ensuring I can delegate tasks among a team of 28 that I've been responsible for."

  • 2. Have you ever had your integrity challenged on the job? If so, how did you handle that situation?

      How to Answer

If you take the time before your video interview to read their code of conduct on their website, you'll quickly see that it is uniquely titled "Doing the Right Thing." Their Chairman and CEO Ari Bousbib elaborates on this further by highlighting why operating with honesty, integrity, and ethical conduct is essential to IQVIA's success when conducting business all over the world. It will be vital for your interviewer to understand that you would join their team with a high degree of integrity, so they ask this question. You will look weak if you say your integrity has never been challenged, because we all have faced an ethical dilemma on the job. Just make sure the example you discuss shows what the situation was, what challenged you, and how you did the right thing in the end.

      Answer Example

"Yes, it was early in my career out of college. I had great working relationships with my colleagues and we often gathered outside of work for social activities. It really helped team building and camaraderie. Becoming close to colleagues has major upsides, but one difficult downside that I encountered. One day, I discovered a colleague pouring alcohol into a soda after lunch and prior to some meetings we were about to step into. A little hesitant on what to do at the time, I let the situation go and we went into our meetings. It didn't take long to notice that it definitely impacted my colleague's interactions during the meeting as they were very withdrawn. Later that day, I went and had a very upfront and frank conversation with my colleague. I let him know what I saw and that I was very disappointed. Knowing that this was strictly against company policy, I encouraged my colleague to talk to our director and he was very angry that I would suggest this. I told him I'd let him think about it overnight and that I'd go to our director the next morning. Thankfully, he went and spoke to our director. While this whole situation would have been easy to brush off, that's not the kind of person I am or who IQVIA would be getting if I emerged as your top candidate."

      Answer Example

"I was raised by parents who were always driving me and my sister to do better things in the world. I was given opportunities to volunteer in our community and our church growing up, and these experiences really helped shape my career and where I am today as a scientist. I've wanted to continue helping people and a career as a lab scientist has made that come true for me and I'm hoping to continue that moving forward with IQVIA's amazing mission. This team is working on genomics and the development of groundbreaking vaccines, something that could potentially save many lives. I find this fascinating and inspiring to be a part of."

I'd love to learn more about the typical people and departments that this position most often collaborates with. Can you talk more about the colleagues that I would be working with? Also, I was reading a bit about your work in the MedTech industry. If you can share, I'd love to hear more about the work that IQVIA is doing in this space because I have been involved in work in the past with medical devices. Can you elaborate more on that?"

      How to Answer

At IQVIA, you will find that the leadership style is supportive and encouraging, allowing employees to live their key principles of innovation, collaboration, and growth. During their interview process, your interviewer will want to ensure that their leadership style will match what you are ideally looking for when you join a new employer. While there is no right or wrong answer here, you want to keep your answer positive and highlight how you most enjoy working in the type of environment you will be joining at IQVIA. Written by Ryan Brunner on February 2nd, 2024

      Answer Example

"I like to consider myself pretty flexible in this respect as I would come to IQVIA having worked under many management styles. I've spent a few years in a more authoritative and siloed environment and was able to succeed there. Over the last four years, I've been in a more collaborative environment that was more open to ideas and promoted conversation both among and within teams. I really love this environment because my director and I can have open and honest conversations and bounce our ideas off each other. Having talked to some IQVIANs before the interview, I get the sense that an environment like this is highly encouraged here."

      How to Answer

IQVIA provides services and solutions across a wide range of industry segments, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, financial institutions, consumer health, providers, and public health entities. Written by Ryan Brunner on February 2nd, 2024

      Answer Example

"I think back to a project my team was working on a couple of years ago with a big, high-profile client. We were nearing the end stages of planning and about to go into the development stages when our main contact with the client suddenly left the company. Within days, someone new from the client was put on the project and they had a much different idea for the final product and its eventual release. Upon initially finding this out in a phone call, many on my project team were distraught because of all the potential rework that may need to be done. Lost time is lost money and that was not a road we wanted to go down. In the coming days, I invited the new contact to a two-hour virtual meeting with my team so we could share in-depth about all of the planning, research, and work that had been done so far and we were able to let them see that this project was headed in the right direction. Looking back, this took a little bit of unconventional thinking that I would love to bring to work as an IQVIAN."

      How to Answer

In their mission to make a positive impact in everything that they do, every IQVIAN must be at the top of their game in performing at their peak. If posed this question during your video interview with IQVIA, try to talk about a time you were encouraging and supported a colleague that wasn't performing to their highest level. Make sure to clearly outline the situation, your actions, and the positive result that came from your actions.

Written by Ryan Brunner on February 2nd, 2024

      Answer Example

"Yes, it was a very unfortunate situation I had with a colleague who was in the middle of a very difficult personal situation in their life and it was impacting their work. Rather than get mad about the situation or take on more work myself, I sat down and had a heart-to-heart conversation with them. They were very appreciative and opened up about their personal issue to me and it was very easy for me to see how their work was impacted. I suggested help through our EAP program and suggested taking some time off work, reiterating that the projects we were working on were very important. My colleague talked to our manager and took a week off work. They came back very refreshed and ready to perform at a high level. I'm hopeful that this situation will show you that I can be a great team player here."

Written by Ryan Brunner on February 1st, 2024

      Answer Example

"When I graduated from my Master's program, I took a job in a fast-paced lab. It was a bit of a rude awakening for me coming out of college into the workforce, particularly in working with some very focused and dedicated individuals who were willing to do anything to succeed. One particular teammate of mine was very hard on me, demanding better work even when I was providing great results. Their communication style was demanding and this caught me way off guard. Rather than cowering, I continued to ask more questions of this colleague and maintain a positive mindset. Over time, we had a great working relationship. From what I've heard from you today, I'd be joining a very similar passionate and dedicated team and I now have the wherewithal to speak my mind and chip in to the biggest developments we will be working on together."

  • 12. What does your typical work day look like right now?

      How to Answer

The daily life of an IQVIAN can vary greatly from job to job and department to department. With no right or wrong answer to a question like this, your interviewer is simply looking to hear what your typical work day is like to help them determine how that would translate to the role that you are interviewing for. While you should be straightforward in your answer, you can get some great insight into what a typical day looks like in many roles at IQVIA by looking at the blogs on their career site. On that site, many IQVIANs are interviewed about their daily life and can give great insight into what you will be stepping into.

Written by Ryan Brunner on January 31st, 2024

      Answer Example

"In a typical day in my current role, I start my day by working through emails from the prior evening and earlier that day and reworking my daily tasks list. From there, the day can go in several directions based on scheduled meetings. If I have a free calendar of meetings, I prioritize immediate project work and get in contact with project leaders regarding progress. I tend to leave my email blocked for 30 minutes later on in the day. My job fields a lot of calls from external customers, so those are always a top priority when calls come in and I take swift action on items needed for customers following calls. Over the last five years, I've become very accustomed and efficient working in a remote role like I'd be doing here at IQVIA and I want you to be assured that I would continue to be efficient in my work."

  • 13. How would your current colleagues describe your leadership skills?

      How to Answer

As one of IQVIA's four key principles that drive their mission, collaboration is lived every day by IQVIANs to help bring out the best in each other. No matter what role you are being considered for during your video interview, it will be important for your interviewer to learn what type of leader you would be as part of their team. Think about your leadership style and how others have described how you lead others and come prepared to discuss this. If you have an example or two of a time when your leadership benefitted a greater team effort, be sure to talk about that as well.

Written by Ryan Brunner on January 31st, 2024

      Answer Example

"If you were to contact any of my references, who are all current colleagues, they wouldn't hesitate to say that I am a great communicator who is respectful and always encouraging thoughts and ideas from others. These qualities help others to gravitate to me in the workplace and follow me in larger projects. A great example of this would be last year when my sales team was in charge of releasing a new product to regional providers. Early tests indicated that this would be a revolutionary drug, but we didn't have the appropriate marketing materials available at the time our leadership wanted it released. Rather than have a negative attitude, I immediately started getting heads together to come up with a plan for developing materials and a plan for bringing the product to the market. The few on my team who were hesitant upon the first announcement quickly came in to help. After a very successful launch, my manager thanked me for my efforts."

      Answer Example

"Thank you for the opportunity. I'm so excited to be talking further about joining the IQVIA team. Two years ago, I graduated with a dual major in chemistry and biology and began working in a very intense lab setting. While this experience has been great in exposing me to solid GLP practices and getting more experience in various lab equipment and instrumentation, I'm ready to take the next step in my career in working directly with cancer treatments. Outside of work, I have a growing family with our second child just born a few months ago. We remain very busy now with two young children. Our active lifestyle is led by our passion for being outdoors and spending as much time with extended family as possible. One huge benefit of this position at IQVIA is that it will bring us closer to both of our families. The IQVIA passion, innovation, and growth attributes really spoke to me as well because being in a workplace that is always evolving and utilizing teamwork is what I thrive on."

  • 17. If offered this position at IQVIA, would you have any salary expectations to accept our offer?

      How to Answer

IQVIA utilizes the video interview process to whittle a great candidate pool down to a few finalists for interviews. If you emerge as a serious candidate, your interviewer will want to be sure that they won't be wasting time on further interviews if your salary expectations are beyond what the company offers. Before your video interview, take the time to read through the job posting once again on the IQVIA website and pay special attention to the bottom of the posting. There you will find the annualized salary range for the position you are interviewing for. You want to ensure that you respond briefly and make sure that your desired/required salary falls within their range, while also keeping in mind that your education and experience will factor into where you fall in that range. Answer Example

"I currently earn an annual salary of $49,000 in my current position and would hope to stay somewhere near this if offered to join here at IQVIA. I know that my two years of experience since graduating with my bachelor's degree will be taken into account. I also want you to know that I'm not fully driven in this move by salary, particularly because IQVIA offers such amazing educational opportunities for your staff and a great benefits package that I would also consider as part of an offer."

  • 19. How did you hear about this opportunity at IQVIA?

      How to Answer

When IQVIA posts a new position on its great careers page, it also advertises positions through many different industry and career-based groups and organizations. They ask this question in part to hear firsthand where their best candidates are being sourced from so they can continue to place resources into areas that work in the future. But on top of this, they're also looking to hear if you have any inside connections to the organization or a deeper interest in coming to work there by asking this. Be open and honest with how you found out about the opportunity and reiterate how you feel this is the perfect job for you.

      Answer Example

"This is a great question and I'd love to share words that I not only feel about myself but also words that my current and past leaders have used to describe me. Number one would be driven. I am a focused and driven individual in my work and my drive comes from my desire to help discover new and innovative therapies. The second word I would use would be partner. My colleagues have always appreciated my ability to collaborate in an open and respectful manner and these are qualities I'm excited to bring to work here at IQVIA. The last word I would use to describe myself would be curious. I'm a person who is never satisfied with the status quo and the same old way of doing things. I'm confident that this curiosity would bode well for me here in your approach to better support your customers' innovations."
